A 20-year-old American woman has been left brain-dead after being hit with a police taser from just a couple of feet away.
UK Telegraph

Danielle Maudsley was flung to the ground in September last year after Trooper Daniel Cole fired his stun gun at her as she attempting to flee arrest. She was still wearing handcuffs as she made the escape bid.
Footage of the incident, which happened outside a Florida Highway Patrol Station, show Trooper Cole firing the weapon despite only being an arms distance away. The video was recorded by a camera in nearby police car.
As the electric prongs struck the young woman, her body tensed, spun around and smacked the ground, her head hitting the asphalt hard.
Moments later she held her hands to her bleeding head and was heard crying before police instructed her to “lie down”. After the footage ended she is said to have blacked out and remained unconscious ever since.
Doctors have said she is unlikely to ever wake up...[Full Article]

The mother of a 14-year-old Dieruff High School student has filed a federal lawsuit claiming an Allentown police officer used excessive force when he shot her daughter in the groin with a stun gun during class dismissal in September.
Victoria Geist says her daughter, Keshana Wilson, had her arms raised high to indicate she surrendered when officer Jason Ammary pointed a Taser at her on Sept. 29 outside the high school and fired, according to the lawsuit filed Wednesday in U.S. District Court by attorney Richard J. Orloski.
The suit claims Ammary fired the Taser directly at the teen's groin and he then filed retaliatory charges against the girl to justify using the Taser. The city is also named as a defendant for failure to control a rogue officer, says the suit, which seeks an unspecified amount of money...[Full Article]

Would not stop for cops so they used a stun gun on him

A 61 year old man from Halifax County, Virginia, was tasered by cops and died Tuesday after they were called to the scene by an onlooker who saw the man fall off his bike in a parking lot and feared he was drunk.
When the police arrived, Roger Anthony was riding away on the bike. Anthony did not respond to the officers’ requests for him to stop so Officer John Turner used a stun gun on him, causing Anthony to once again fall off his bike, reports wral news.
Family members told the press that when Anthony arrived at the local hospital shortly afterwards, he was declared brain dead.
Scotland Neck Police Chief Joe Williams told the media that the officer had seen Anthony “take something out his pocket and put it into his mouth,” and had therefore taken the decision to taze the man.
Anthony’s sister, Gladys Freeman, told wral that her brother was disabled, hard of hearing and suffered from seizures.
Anthony’s brother-in-law, Milton Freeman told reporters “Why would you (use a stun gun on) a man on a bike? He didn’t do any crime. He wasn’t trying to escape. How (was) he going to escape on his bicycle?”
The police have refused to comment further on the incident pending an investigation. Officer Turner, who had only been on active duty for a month, has been placed on leave...[Full Article]

Two days before Brett Elder’s sixteenth birthday, Bay City Police tased the 15 year old to death.
This is how on March 22, 2009 police reacted to a dispute between Elder and another individual. On that Michigan morning, the boy was inebriated, and according to the officers involved, he alledgedly attempted to fight them, leading an officer to use his Taser. One witness, however, said Elder had already been cuffed by the officers when the cop fired-off the weapon.
"He was flopping around and looked like a fish out of water," Cindy Hernden told Tom Eley of World Socialist Web Site back in 2009. "That's the only way to explain it — his whole body was bent over," Elder’s aunt went on to say.
The boy later died at a local hospital.
The results of an autopsy showed Elder died of “alcohol-induced excited delirium,” along with the “application of an electro-muscular disruption device.”
Earlier this month Elder’s family got some closure for the wrongful death when a federal judge ruled on a $1 million settlement. Eugene E. Elder Sr., Brett’s father, filed the lawsuit back in 2009 and stated that “there’s no reason for killing my boy.”
Members of Brett’s family admitted at the time he was trying to cope with the loss of his mother and was going through rehab for substance abuse. Although the loss of his mother isn’t an excuse, his family says that being drunk was no reason for Elder to die. Wendy Elder, Brett’s sister-in-law, told the media "the police are supposed to protect you, not hurt you."
The officer that fired the Taser was placed on administrative leave but no criminal charges were ever filed against the officer.
After the settlement, Eugene Elder Jr. declined to comment.
According to Truth… not Tasers, a website which is against Taser use, there has been approximately 682 related deaths in North America and Elder maybe the youngest person to have died from an electro-muscular disruption device.

Dayton police tasered, pepper-sprayed and beat a mentally handicapped teen and then charged him with assault. What did the disabled boy do to deserve this onslaught? The police officer “mistook” his speech impediment for a sign of “disrespect”.

Similar to how cops think filming them is against the law, many are also under the assumption that not groveling and obeying their every order is also an arrestable offense.
17-year-old mentally handicapped teen Jesse Kersey found this out to his cost while riding his bicycle near his Dayton home recently, after Officer Willie Hooper attempted to stop and talk to the boy.
Failing to understand what Hooper was telling him, the boy attempted to ride home and fetch his mother to be able to communicate with the officer. Despite the fact that Hooper knew the boy was mentally disabled, he began yelling at Kersey and then threatened a neighbor who tried to inform him of the boy’s handicap, telling the resident he would be arrested if he didn’t go back indoors.
As Kersey’s mother Ford opened her front door, Hooper and co-defendant Officer John Howard, “fired their Tasers, striking Jesse in the back with both probes,” according to testimony heard at Montgomery County Court.
“Once inside the house, defendant Hooper and defendant Howard began to struggle with Jesse, who was standing against the back door with his hands up in front of his face, saying ‘Please quit, please quit.’
“On numerous occasions, Ford and a family friend, Christopher Peyton, informed Officer Hooper that Jesse was mentally challenged/handicapped, and that Jesse did not understand what was happening,” the complaint states.
But the mom says the cops continued their assault: “Officer Howard utilized his Cap-Stun pepper spray and sprayed Jesse … [and] struck Jesse with a closed fist in the upper chest area.”
Howard continued to beat Kersey, striking him in the upper thigh, before back-up was called and 20 other officers from different jurisdictions arrived on the scene. Apparently, tough guys Hooper and Howard, who like to prove their manhood by beating up mentally handicapped boys, couldn’t handle the situation on their own.
“At no point, even after being advised of Jesse’s mental challenge/handicap by Jesse’s family and numerous bystanders, did defendant Hooper, defendant Howard, or any other police officer present, attempt to communicate with Jesse or explain in terms he could understand as to why Jesse was being chased,” said Kersey’s mother.
The boy was subsequently handcuffed, hogtied, and thrown into the back of a police cruiser.
Of course, as is standard operating procedure for police after they beat and torture innocent and defenseless victims, Kersey himself was charged with “assault on a peace officer, resisting arrest, and obstructing official business,” charges which were later dismissed after the court declared Jesse incompetent.
Kersey and his mother are now seeking compensation from the city and the two lead officers for “false imprisonment, false arrest, malicious prosecution, assault, battery, excessive use of force, infliction of emotional distress and civil conspiracy”.
As we have documented, there is an epidemic of police brutality that has exploded over the last decade which seems to be targeted against the most vulnerable members of society.
What has happened to our police officers? They are being trained to oppress and abuse the public as America sinks into a decaying banana republic. There seems to have developed a particular fetish amongst a cadre of steroid-addled cops that dictates they must satisfy their lust for abusing power by attacking defenseless individuals, particularly the elderly and disabled.
Police in Seattle were also caught on camera last year beating up a mentally disabled teenager for the crime of jaywalking.

About a dozen people were trying to coral 800-pound Houdini across busy Mammoth Road when police showed up with their tasers.
“They said ‘We’re going to tase her, we’re going to taser it,’ and the group was pleading with them. Everyone was kinda yelling, ‘Please don’t taser the cow, it’s only going to make it worse,” she told WBZ NewsRadio 1030.

Weapon shoots cartridge that delivers shock
Sunday, March 27, 2011 03:16 AM THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH![]() The Taser X12, held by Columbus Police Sgt. Brian Bruce, operates like a 12-gauge pump-action shotgun. But regular shotgun shells won't fit in it, to prevent accidents. Columbus police have deployed a new shotgun-style stun gun that can hit targets up to 100 feet away. The Taser X12 shoots wireless cartridges that travel about 1,000 feet per second, officials said. The projectiles are similar in size and shape to traditional shotgun shells "It's incredibly accurate," said Sgt. Matt Weekley. The projectile is barbed and flies prongs first. Once it strikes its target, the prongs attach to the body through clothing. The force of the strike causes the back end of the projectile to come apart and attach to another part of the body, completing a circuit. The two pieces are held together by a 14-inch wire. Gravity pulls the second piece, also barbed, back into contact with the body. Once the prongs are in contact with the skin in two places, the person receives a 20-second high-voltage, low-current electrical shock that incapacitates him or her, Weekley said. The lead portion of the projectile is also barbed on the back side so that if a suspect clamps his hand over it in surprise, he will receive a shock. The X12 holds four cartridges and operates like a 12-gauge pump-action shotgun, according to Taser International, the company that produces the weapon. Regular shotgun shells cannot be loaded into the stun gun to prevent accidents, Weekley said. Police will use the new stun guns in life-threatening situations where the use of force is justified, such as barricade situations, riots, when Molotov cocktails are thrown or when someone is threatening suicide with a knife, Weekley said...[Full Article] |

Police Taser/Torture 64 Year Old Man With A Heart Condition In June 2009
A lawsuit has been launched against the sheriff's office in Marin County, Calif., over an episode in which deputies barged uninvited into a 64-year-old man's home and shot him three times with a Taser, screaming "stop resisting" while the incapacitated victim writhed in pain on the floor.
The sheriff's version of the episode was that watching "selected" video segments of the events may mislead people.
The incident was reported by KGO-TV in San Francisco, which posted a video:
The episode developed late in June when Peter McFarland, a consultant, returned home one night from a charity fundraiser and fell on his front steps, injuring his knee. Paramedics were called to treat his injury.
Then as the paramedics departed, McFarland reported, two deputies barged in.
"All of a sudden they just showed up, came in here like there was a fire," he said.
The deputies insisted on taking him to a hospital for an evaluation, according to the television report.
"We're going to take you to the hospital for an evaluation," one deputy says on the video. "You said if you had a gun you'd shoot yourself in the head."
McFarland said that statement was no more than hyperbole, reflecting how much pain he was in from his fall and the fact he was exhausted.
He refused to go and argued with the deputies. He told them to get out of his house and got up to go to bed.
That's when he was shot by the deputies, three times. The officers were yelling, "Stop resisting. Stop resisting," as he screamed unintelligibly while writhing uncontrollably on the floor.
His wife was pleading for the officers to stop, telling them McFarland had a heart condition.
John Scott, McFarland's attorney, told the television station it is "hard to imagine something this shocking could happen."
McFarland was arrested and charged with resisting arrest, but the charges later were dismissed. The attorney told the station the officers had no search warrant or any legal reason to enter the private home.
The station interviewed Dr. Byron Lee, a cardiologist, who said "the Taser has some real risks that if you can get Tasered in the right places, you can cause sudden death and cardiac arrest."
The station later reported when the sheriff responded to concerns about the incident.
The sheriff's office's written statement to the station said, "The decision to resort to the use of force is never taken lightly and deputy sheriffs (sic) undergo an extensive amount of on-going training to ensure those decisions are both appropriate and fall within the guidelines established by law and department policy."
The station said the officers also said watching someone being jolted is hard.
"That reaction can all too often also be influenced by using only small, selected segments of a much lengthier video that better depicts the complexity of the event in question."

Peter McFarland's Attorney Said Repeated Use of Taser Could Have Killed the 64-Year-Old Cancer Survivor
A 911 call for help after a fall ended with a 64-year-old cancer survivor getting Tased three times by police in his California home, an action his attorney said could have killed him.

Marin County sheriff's deputies turned a Taser on Peter McFarland when he refused to go to the hospital and allegedly became belligerent.
"These are deadly weapons, and he had a heart condition," McFarland's attorney, John Scott, told "Good Morning America." " He could have easily been killed here."
McFarland can be seen screaming in agony on a police video, lying on the floor as the officers pumped high-powered volts of electricity into his back.
Scott said his client has recovered physically from the June 2009 incident, but that he's suing not only for compensation for his injuries but also to raise awareness about the "use of Tasers in situations where force is not warranted."

Decorated doctor challenging legitimacy of orders under Obama
Supporters of a decorated Army officer who faces charges for questioning the legitimacy of orders in the chain of command under Barack Obama as commander-in-chief are accusing the Army of threatening to "taser" the physician.
The claim comes from the American Patriot Foundation, which is generating support for Lt. Col. Terry Lakin.
Lakin appeared at an Army hearing to be arraigned on the charges last Friday.
It was at that hearing, the foundation reports, that the threat was made.
The foundation reported, "The afternoon before the hearing, LTC Steven Brodsky told LTC Lakin's counsel that Lakin must report hours before the hearing to his duty post at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in order for him to be 'transported under escort' to make sure he showed up at the arraignment 'to avoid embarrassing his unit."...
