NYPD "Stop and Frisks" Hit All-Time High

NBC New York

City police officers stopped and questioned 684,330 people on the street last year.

The number of so-called "stop and frisks" is rising.

City police officers stopped and questioned 684,330 people on the street last year, a record since the NYPD began yearly tallies of the tactic in 2002 and a 14 percent increase over 2010.

It couldn't be determined how many people were patted down during the encounters, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Typically, half of the potential suspects who are stopped are frisked or searched...[Full Article]

3 elderly women say TSA agents made them pull down pants, underwear

Local10.com

NEW YORK -

With age come such things as catheters, colostomy bags and adult diapers. Now add another indignity to getting old — having to drop your pants and show these things to a complete stranger.

Two women in their 80s put the Transportation Security Administration on the defensive this week by going public about their embarrassment during screenings in a private room at John F. Kennedy International Airport. One claimed she was forced to lower her pants and underwear in front of an agent so that her back brace could be inspected. Another said agents made her pull down her waistband to show her colostomy bag...[Full Article]

Big Sis Ordered NFL Grope Downs

Guilty until proven innocent – the decline and fall of America accelerates

Paul Joseph Watson

The NFL’s new policy to conduct pat downs of all people entering stadiums nationwide is a consequence of the organization’s partnership with Homeland Security, the federal agency that has come to resemble an occupying army enforcing the notion that Americans are guilty until proven innocent.

Big Sis Ordered NFL Grope Downs NFL%20x large

“The NFL wants all fans patted down from the ankles up this season to improve fan safety,” reports USA Today.

“Under the new “enhanced” pat-down procedures, the NFL wants all 32 clubs to search fans from the ankles to the knees as well as the waist up. Previously, security guards only patted down fans from the waist up while looking for booze, weapons or other banned items.”

The Buffalo Bills and the Indianapolis Colts have already announced the new measures will be in place for this weekend’s games.

The policy arrives following the NFL’s partnership with the Department of Homeland Security, who back in January for the Super Bowl recommended that fans entering the Dallas Cowboys stadium be subjected to airport-style metal detectors as well as pat downs. The NFL is following orders as it gets on board with the plan to litter the United States with checkpoints at public places where Americans will be forced not just to show their papers, but to assume the position for minimum wage morons to conduct invasive pat downs of themselves and their children.

But this only marks the beginning of the role DHS sees itself in assuming as part of its occupation of the country.

Homeland Security is also developing technology to be used at “security events” which purports to monitor “malintent” on behalf of an individual who passes through a checkpoint. The promotional video for the program explains how “Future Attribute Screening Technology” (FAST) checkpoints will conduct “physiological” and “behavioral” tests in order to weed out suspected terrorists and criminals.

The clip shows individuals who attend “security events” being led into trailers before they are interrogated as to whether they are terrorists while lie detector-style computer programs analyze their physiological responses. The subjects are asked about their whereabouts, and if they are attempting to smuggle bombs or recording devices into the “expo,” proving that the technology is intended to be used at public events and not just airports. Individuals who do not satisfy the first lie detector-style test are then asked “additional questions”.

Tests for the program were carried out by the DHS back in May, suggesting its implementation is close to fruition. Forget pat downs – the next step for entering NFL stadiums, shopping malls or any public place where crowds gather will be a behavioral interrogation and a radiation body scan.

The NFL policy was enacted following the arrest of a man for using a stun gun at the New York Jets-Dallas Cowboys game last weekend. Using that logic, any time a gun is used in a shopping mall, on a highway or in any building or at any event, everyone will be treated as a criminal and subjected to a pat down as a routine response.

It is estimated that over 16 million people will undergo the grope downs over the course of the football season, acclimatizing them to accept the notion that the 4th amendment is completely null and void. And you can forget the argument about ‘no one is forcing you to go to a football game’ – pat downs and body scans are set to completely infest every level of society – there will be no easy way out if you want to live any kind of reasonable public life whatsoever.

In the coming years, staying away from airports won’t be enough to avoid a run-in with goons groping your private parts. Homeland Security has embarked on a massive gestapo-like occupation of America where “security” checkpoints will litter highways and roads, transport hubs, as well as public events and anywhere crowds gather, and even as saw recently in Santa Fe, at your kid’s local prom night.

This in turn will be reinforced by an army of citizen tattle tales being trained to be the eyes of the state under the See Something, Say Something campaign, which was heavily promoted ahead of the 2011 Super Bowl.

Indeed, Big Sis has made herself a permanent fixture of public life, popping up at every major event and now at Wal-Mart to remind Americans that they live in a police state and should behave obediently and meekly accept the body scans, the behavioral interrogations and the pat downs unless they want to be treated like a terrorist. The NFL has prostrated itself to be exploited by the DHS as a showcase for turning America into a Soviet-stye hellhole. This special relationship between the state and the private sector to push police state measures is a classic example of an inherently fascist public-private partnership that we have seen many times before in historical tyrannies.

America in 2011 is all about being guilty until proven innocent and the complete evisceration of what the country is supposed to stand for in the pursuit of unobtainable “security”. The NFL is merely the next stop on the road to transforming America into one giant prison camp, where the prisoners will constantly have to prove their obedience every time they enter a mall, a sports event, a public building, a stretch of highway, or any place imaginable that formerly allowed freedom of movement.

NFL wants pat-downs from ankles up at all stadiums

USA Today

The NFL wants all fans patted down from the ankles up this season to improve fan safety.

Under the new "enhanced" pat-down procedures, the NFL wants all 32 clubs to search fans from the ankles to the knees as well as the waist up. Previously, security guards only patted down fans from the waist up while looking for booze, weapons or other banned items.

The stricter physical screening policy impacts the 16.6 million fans expected to attend live regular season NFL games this season. The more thorough searches will spell longer lines for ticket-holding fans seeking entry to games. It's sure to raise the ire of some fans who consider it an invasion of privacy...[Full Article]

Expert: Security Checkpoints Near Soft Targets May Soon Become The Norm
A Day May Come When You'll Be Patted Down Going Into Stores

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Counter terrorism experts say a retaliation attack for Osama bin Laden’s death is inevitable. Terrorists are expected to aim for more vulnerable soft targets like shopping malls or museums.

They are places jam-packed with people — pedestrian malls, shopping centers and stadiums.

“Yeah, I feel safe. But of course in the back of my head I know that things can happen,” one person told CBS 2’s Hazel Sanchez.

Counter terrorism expert Juval Aviv said terrorists seeking revenge for Osama bin Laden’s death will turn to attacks less dramatic than the destruction on Sept. 11 — focusing instead on soft targets like hotels, places of worship and mass transit hubs.

“It’s easier and less complicated to carry out,” Aviv said. “What they’re going to achieve if they’re successful is to kill as many people as possible.”

Security consultant David Boehm said the future could include security check points entering all soft targets — like your local department store. Boehm said even with a police presence, the areas are vulnerable...[Full Article]

Former Miss USA winner: TSA agent ‘touched my vagina’

Raw Story

Former Miss USA 2003 Susie Castillo says she was "molested" by TSA workers.

During a stopover at the Dallas-Fort Worth airport, agents required Castillo to undergo an invasive pat down after she chose to opt out of a full body scan.

"I'm a frequent flyer and don't wish to be irradiated more than I already am on flights," she explained on her blog. "So I will always 'opt out' of going through these body scanners, especially since the long-term effects of radiation are quite well documented: it mutates our cells, often in irreversible ways, and causes cancer."

"The pat down at Dallas airport was completely different than the one I got at LAX," an emotional Castillo explained in a video recorded after the ordeal. "I'm sure this woman was just doing here job but she actually felt -- touched my vagina. And so, I think that's why I'm crying."

"They're making me choose to either get molested -- because that's what I feel like -- or go through this machine that's completely unhealthy and dangerous... I do feel violated."...[Full Article]

Local Man Says TSA Broke Promise

WLNS.com

Tom Sawyer, experienced rough airport patdown: "I'm kind of ambivalent at the moment about TSA and moving forward. I don't see the moving forward."

A local man says the TSA has broken a promise. Three months after an embarrassing airport patdown, a former DeWitt High School teacher says the TSA isn't following through to make sure passengers with medical conditions are treated with respect. Tom Sawyer says TSA officials aren't keeping up their end of the bargain.

Tom Sawyer: "I left the meeting feeling very good and I thought it was the government at its best in action, I really did. I was very pleased and now I'm wondering."

Wondering because it's been three months since Tom Sawyer met with Transportation Security Administration officials in Washington DC to brainstorm ways TSA agents could better respect passengers with medical conditions.

Tom Sawyer: "We talked about the badges that they have on their website now that maybe would alleviate some of it, more thorough training of the TSA agents in medical conditions."

That meeting, motivated by what happened to sawyer last November, when a rough airport patdown ruptured his urostomy bag.

Tom Sawyer: "Off came the urostomy bag and urine."

An embarrassing moment that quickly gained national attention, motivating Sawyer to work with the TSA to make sure other travelers with medical conditions were treated with more dignity...[Full Article]

A couple in Kentucky said on Wednesday they wanted the US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) to change how it screened children after their 6-year-old daughter was frisked at the New Orleans airport. Selena Drexel said that the family was returning home from a vacation earlier this month when their daughter Anna was selected for a pat-down. The couple posted a video of the search on YouTube. It shows a female TSA agent patting down the child and explaining the procedure to the girl and her parents. The screener says that she will use the back of her hands on sensitive areas and will "put my hand in the waistband."

Ky. parents: TSA frisked our 6-year-old daughter

Associated Press

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A Kentucky couple wants the TSA to change how it screens children after their 6-year-old daughter was frisked at the New Orleans airport.

Selena Drexel told ABC's "Good Morning America" Wednesday the family was returning home from a vacation earlier this month when their daughter Anna was selected for a pat-down.

The couple posted a video of the search on YouTube.

The girl's father, Todd Drexel, says Anna was confused by the search and started crying afterward because she thought she'd done something wrong.

Selena Drexel says such searches are inappropriate for children because they're usually told not to let adults touch them in sensitive areas.

In a statement, the Transportation Security Administration says the officer followed proper procedure but that the agency is reviewing its screening policies.

Texas lawmakers look to limit TSA scans, pat-downs at airports

Miami Herald

A bipartisan group of more than 20 state lawmakers have signed on in support of measures to ban the TSA from using controversial screening procedures in Texas airports.

State Reps. David Simpson, R-Longview, and Eddie Rodriguez, D-Austin, have gotten about 20 fellow legislators to co-author bills the pair filed last week banning the use of full-body scanners and invasive pat-down searches on fliers.

The supporters include lawmakers on opposite ends of the political spectrum, including Fort Worth Democrat Lon Burnam, one of the most liberal members of the Legislature, and Tyler Republican Leo Berman, a staunch social conservative.

"You've got civil libertarians. You've got conservative Christians," Simpson said. "One fellow legislator told me, 'If this doesn't fly out of committee, I don't know what will.'"

One of the bills would ban "body imaging scanning equipment" from being installed or operated in any airport in Texas.

The other bill would add any TSA-style pat-down used "to grant access to a publicly accessible building or form of transportation" to the description of "sexual assault" in the state's penal code...[Full Article]

Sean Penn Causes Trouble At LAX, Gets A Pat Down From Security

Sean Penn suit airport lax security Sean Penn suit airport lax security

After getting into an argument with a female airport employee and balking at going through the security line, Sean Penn was taken aside at TSA officials today before jetting out of LAX. While being patted down, the Oscar-winning actor was on his best behavior, and after he made his way through the line just like everyone else, we're hoping he continued to mind his manners. We wouldn't want any Josh Duhamel-style drama on the flight! Though that would be quite entertaining...

After being romantically linked to Scarlett Johansson this week, the latest hookup rumor is that Sean and longtime pal Charlize Theron are an item. Though sources told the National Enquirer that the two were spotted in the Chateau Marmont garden "totally drunk and on each other," insiders close to both actors laughed the claims off.

Canadian sues claiming abuse at U.S. border

Detroit Free Press

A 46-year-old Canadian woman sued two unidentified female U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents in U.S. District Court in Detroit on Wednesday, saying one of them strip-searched and groped her without justification as the other one watched at the Ambassador Bridge last March.

Loretta Van Beek of Stratford, Ontario, who said she travels to the U.S. regularly to vacation in Georgia, said agents sent her to secondary inspection because she failed to declare raspberries.

She said agents questioned her during a two-hour session, then ordered her to strip. She said one agent aggressively groped her breasts and genital area for an extended period of time while the other watched. Then they photographed and fingerprinted her and sent her back to Canada, the suit said.

Her lawyer, S. Thomas Wienner of Rochester, said she was traumatized by the incident and wants to find out whether there are other victims.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection said it couldn't comment on pending litigation.

Story of a TSA 'Opt Out'

Stay Classy, TSA

Swampland / Time

Ever since the TSA started putting back-scatter devices into use at selected airports last fall, I've been waiting to have the chance to opt out and register a one-woman protest against the machines. (Jeff Goldberg doesn't get to have all the fun.) However, most of my recent air travel has been with a tiny traveling companion, and I've been pleasantly surprised that at six different airports, TSA agents have directed us away from the back-scatter devices and through metal detectors, simply because I had a three-month-old baby in my arms.

(I also learned that the Irish-Catholic TSA agents in Boston will eagerly carry your luggage and reassemble your stroller when they learn your daughter's name is Finoula. I warned her not to expect such special treatment everywhere.)

So I was awfully pleased when I arrived at a security checkpoint in Miami International Airport this morning and discovered that my line fed into a back-scatter device, even though metal detectors were in use for the other lines. When it was my turn, I politely said that I would like to opt out. "Seriously?" the first TSA worker asked me with a raised eyebrow. Yes, seriously...

Hands On: SPM Gets TSA’d

State Press Magazine

By Ana Anguiano January 28, 2011 at 12:01 am

Ana Anguiano has flashbacks to her previous TSA patdown. Photo illustration by Anthony Sandoval.

If readers recall, the Internet was a flurry of rage a few months ago when the Transportation Security Administration announced the introduction of full-body scanners at airport security checkpoints across the nation. The scanners quickly became unpopular and a hot topic to weigh in on.

As journalists will, I decided that nothing beats first-hand experience. So, pumped full of courage, I headed to Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport ready to turn down their bulky machines and opt for the pat down. Sadly, I never got the chance. I was sent through a regular metal detector and went on my way to spend break with my family.

When it came time to pass through security at the El Paso International Airport in Texas, I saw it again — the giant black box of danger. El Paso International is a small airport and everyone had to go through the scanner. There was seemingly no way around it, but I knew better.

Being the only one in line, I felt confident in rejecting their silly device and opting for a physical pat down. I figure if they want to know what’s in my pockets, they should look for themselves and not resort to highly expensive scanners.

The very professional TSA worker tried to talk me out of it. She mentioned that she’d have to run her hands up my thighs and it would be a lot simpler if I went through the scanner. I said thanks, but no thanks. And that’s when it got real…

“One female opt out! We have one female opt out!” she yelled to her fellow TSA workers. She might as well have yelled, “We have a special snowflake that is too precious to go through our scanner and is making my day just that much more annoying!”...

Ventura Strikes Back with Lawsuit Against TSA

The Inside Story from Alex Jones About the Former Governor’s Humiliating Pat-Down Experiences that Included ‘Touching, Gripping & Rubbing of the Genitals’ at the Hands of TSA

Former Governor Jesse Ventura has taken steps to sue the TSA and the Department of Homeland Security in a lawsuit that will take on invasive airport pat-downs. [READ LAWSUIT]

Former Governor Jesse Ventura has taken steps to sue the TSA and the Department of Homeland Security, naming their chiefs John Pistole and ‘Big Sis’ Janet Napolitano in a lawsuit that will take on invasive airport pat-downs [READ LAWSUIT]. Ventura first told Alex Jones of his intent to sue the TSA privately back in September while traveling for the making of TruTV’s “Conspiracy Theory,” expressing grave concern about what he viewed as his country’s transformation into East Germany.

Jones recalls Ventura’s outrage at the TSA’s harassing old people in wheelchairs with the invasive new pat-down procedures. The former governor himself is routinely sent to secondary screening due to a hip replacement in 2008, and Jones witnessed him undergo repeated humiliating searches during pat-downs at the hands of TSA. Worse, at airports across the country, even those presenting medical cards describing special needs or equipment from a doctor are routinely ignored as TSA agents demand that medical patients remove urostomy bags, prosthetic breasts or that TSA be allowed to grope a pacemaker patients’ breasts.

“That’s why I want to leave the United States,” Ventura had told Jones at the time. “This is why I go down to Mexico– this is wrong.” Ventura indicated that he was most concerned about the destruction of the 4th Amendment and passing of the America he once knew.

Ventura filed his lawsuit Monday, January 24, 2011 in Minnesota and news reports have named David Olsen as his lawyer. The former governor has indicated that his suit will include violations of the Americans with Disabilities Act and the 4th Amendment, arguing that he and others with disabilities have been discriminated against and unduly singled out by TSA despite presenting no threat and warranting no reason for lawful search. Further, Ventura has argued that his ability to travel freely has been infringed, hampering his ability to work.

In November 2010, Ventura vowed on the Alex Jones Show that he would never again fly on commercial aircraft so long as current TSA policies remain in place. “It probably means an end to my career,” Ventura lamented on Jones’ program. As The Drudge Report exposed months ago, Ventura has been groped during TSA pat-downs and is uncomfortable with the invasion of privacy, as well as the abuse of government power.

Now, KSTP in Minnesota is reporting that:

“Ventura accuses the agencies of violating his ‘basic rights to privacy and dignity, and his right to be free from unreasonable searches and seizures’.” [...]

“Ventura.. alleges the pat-down included ‘warrantless, non-suspicion-based offensive touching, gripping and rubbing of the genital and other sensitive areas of his body,’ which, the lawsuit contends, met ‘the definition for an unlawful sexual assault’.”

Jesse Ventura is reportedly working with the press from Mexico and should be appearing on the Alex Jones Show in the near future.

Homeland Security, in the ever-echoing siren song of “public safety,” is attempting to bar our right of free passage across the country. Those who refuse to cooperate with body scanners or pat-downs are told they will be arrested, detained or fined. Just as in Nazi Germany, we’re increasingly gearing towards internal passports, where we must satisfy on the spot inspection or be refused the ability to travel. Tourism is down by billions of dollars; angry travel and vacation industry representatives tried to get TSA to back down, citing some 41 million potential fliers who ‘avoided’ travel due to anxiety over airport security. But airports are only the leading phase. TSA, VIPR squads and mobile x-ray scanners are rolling out onto the streets of America at train and bus stations. Sports stadiums and shopping malls will be next. Homeland Security is unveiling 9,000 tele-screens at locations across America, including Wal-Mart, to encourage people to spy on their neighbors.

If anyone can stop the police state, it is the people of the United States. The bigger picture is looking more and more like 1984. It is vital that we resist these police state measures and make our voices heard. We commend former Gov. Jesse Ventura for standing up to TSA and using his prominent name to fight back against clear bullying and intimidation by a government agency trying to expand its mandate for power. Others have fought the TSA, including a man in Seattle who recently won his suit over the right to use a camera. Moreover, the TSA had to settle with an Amarillo, Texas woman after their agents shockingly exposed her breasts and then laughed about it.

The Alex Jones Show – November 19, 2010:

JESSE VENTURA ABUSED BY TSA WILL NO LONGER FLY.
