There was a fatal shooting this week at the Sandy Hook elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut where it is reported that an estimated
27 people (including 18 children) were shot and killed. Sandy Hook
elementary houses 626 students from kindergarten to 4th grade with 46
faculty members. Local newspapers are reporting that “multiple” people were shot based on anonymous sources.
It is being said
in initial reports that a father of a student was the shooter. Law
enforcement was saying that “the attacker was a 20-year-old man with
ties to the school and that one of the guns was a .223-calibre rifle.”
As the story unfolds, police began to say that the shooter only had
ties to the school. Among the dead are believed to be the principal and
school psychologist. The shooter was found dead in the school building. Two handguns were recovered at the scene.
Later in the day, the shooter was identified
as Adam Lanza, whose mother was a school teacher at the Sandy Hook
elementary school. Lanza, who was 20 years old, shot his mother during
the violent act. Police are saying that Lanza’s girlfriend and another
