Starbucks: We Abide States On Open-Carry Gun Laws
NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Starbucks /quotes/comstock/15*!sbux/quotes/nls/sbux (SBUX 24.15, -0.08, -0.33%) said Wednesday that its long-standing policy was to comply with local laws on the issue of open carry of firearms. "We comply with local laws and statutes in all the communities we serve. In this case, 43 of the 50 U.S. states have open carry weapon laws. Where these laws don't exist, we comply with laws that prohibit the open carrying of weapons. The political, policy and legal debates around these issues belong in the legislatures and courts, not in our stores," the company said in a statement. Starbucks is commenting in the wake of a recent spate of news stories about customers openly carrying loaded weapons into their stores.
