CRITICS last night voiced concern after the EU’s attempts to raise their profile spread to classrooms across Britain.
A council staged an EU event encouraging teachers to link up with schools on the Continent. Brightly coloured pencil cases bearing its 12-star logo have also been handed out to pupils across the country.
The EU Commission denies such initiatives amount to “propaganda’’ but some fear the aim is to brainwash schoolchildren into backing the EU.
Andrew Allison, of the TaxPayers’ Alliance, said: “Taxpayers will be shocked to read the cash they pay to Brussels is being spent in this way. If schools want children to know about the EU, there are plenty of unbiased resources.
“Teachers don’t need to go to expensive conferences, and schools don’t need to buy books from the EU bookshop.’’

Police will take no action against the organisers of 'barbaric' cage fighting involving children as young as eight, it was confirmed today.
Concerns were raised about whether two boys were put at risk by taking part in a bout at Greenlands Labour Club in Preston, Lancashire, in front of a 250-strong adult audience.
But a spokesman for Lancashire Police said today the force had 'looked into this matter fully and there are no issues for us to pursue'.
Kicking, shoving and grappling each other to the floor, the youngsters were filmed competing in cage fighting contests in front of a baying mob of adults enjoying a night’s entertainment.

These shocking images show the primary school-age boys fighting with no padding, headguards or protection of any kind in what critics have described as ‘like a circus performance’.
The youngsters have been trained to wrestle their opponents into submission as their fathers, pint glasses in hand, look on.
Unlike adult contestants, they are not, in theory, allowed to punch, kick, knee or elbow each other during the competitions, but the rules are inevitably broken.

Over 30,000 British schoolchildren, some as young as three, have had their names registered on a government database and branded “racist” or “homophobic” for using playground insults, infractions that could impact their future careers.
The shocking figures were disclosed after civil liberties group the Manifesto Club made a Freedom of Information Act request which betrayed the fact that kids who used petty jibes are now being treated as thought criminals by education authorities.
34,000 incidents of “racism” in total were reported for the year 2009-2010, with nursery school toddlers as young as three being put on a state database for using the words “gay” and “lesbian”. One child who called another “broccoli head” was also reported to authorities. Other cases included a child who used the word “gaylord,” while another who told a teacher “this work is gay,” was also added to the thought crime database.
The majority of the reported cases involved primary school children.
“The record can be passed from primaries to secondaries or when a pupil moves between schools,” reports the Daily Mail.
“And if schools are asked for a pupil reference by a future employer or a university, the record could be used as the basis for it, meaning the pettiest of incidents has the potential to blight a child for life.”
Schools are being pressured to report such incidents to authorities and face punishments for not doing so under anti-bullying policies.
This is a clear example of how hate crime laws have brazenly been hijacked by the state to get children institutionalized on criminal databases at an early age. This is about the state dictating what your child can think and say – it’s the thought police on steroids.
Orwell talked about the state reducing language via Newspeak in his book 1984. By eliminating the very words that come out of children’s mouths and punishing them for thinking certain thoughts, all critical thinking is ultimately abolished, and Big Brother assumes the supreme power to dictate reality – a dictatorship over our very minds.

Footage capturing the moment 6 robbers attempt a smash and grab raid at a jewellery shop in Northampton - only to be stopped by a pensioner fending them off with her handbag. The six robbers on mopeds smashed the shop windows with sledgehammers at 9:30 this morning. The pensioner saw them in the distance and ran at the helmeted group and in an act of bravery, attacked them with her handbag. Police arrested a man who was held by the public at the scene and have since made four more arrests.
The Sun, Britain's most widely-read newspaper, is a tabloid but is generally considered to have very reliable national security sources. Their Tuesday front-page article, which quotes unnamed officials, says troops from the SAS regiment (Special Air Services) have been deployed alongside police in London, Birmingham and other big cities.
According to The Sun, the SAS troops will be carrying semi-automatic assault rifles, pistols and stun grenades. The paper did not say how many members of the elite military regiment would be scattered about Britain's shopping centers.
The intention, according to the newspaper, is for the special forces to be on-hand in the event of a wide-scale attack by terrorists using bombs and or guns -- such as the rampage by a group of gunmen in the Indian city of Mumbai which left more than 100 people dead.
Britain has not raised its terror alert level as the holiday season ramps up, but groups like al Qaeda have previously tried to launch attacks around Christmas, and large crowds of shoppers around the U.K. undoubtedly make an attractive target to terror organizations.
It will allow security services and the police to spy on the activities of every Briton who uses a phone or the internet.
Moves to make every communications provider store details for at least a year will be unveiled later this year sparking fresh fears over a return of the surveillance state.
The plans were shelved by the Labour Government last December but the Home Office is now ready to revive them.
It comes despite the Coalition Agreement promised to "end the storage of internet and email records without good reason".
Any suggestion of a central "super database" has been ruled out but the plans are expected to involve service providers storing all users details for a set period of time.
That will allow the security and police authorities to track every phone call, email, text message and website visit made by the public if they argue it is needed to tackle crime or terrorism.
The information will include who is contacting whom, when and where and which websites are visited, but not the content of the conversations or messages...

(NewsCore) - A British high school has installed a £9,000 ($14,238) face recognition camera to discourage students from turning up late to classes -- and plans to use the system to track teachers.
Sir Christopher Hatton School in Northamptonshire. Central England, is one of the first in the country to install the monitors, which will be used to track more than 200 senior year students.
It uses two cameras to produce a 4D scan and identifies faces by measuring eyes, nose and face shape -- and can distinguish between identical twins. It records pupils¿ attendance and enables the school to have those arriving late make up the time at the end of the day...

The furious FBI asked local cops to tell college student Luke Angel, 17, his drunken insult was "unacceptable". Luke yesterday admitted he fired off a single email criticising the US Government after seeing a TV programme about 9/11.
He said: "I don't remember exactly what I wrote as I was drunk. But I think I called Barack Obama a p***k. It was silly - the sort of thing you do when you're a teenager and have had a few."
Luke, of Silsoe, Beds, said it was "a bit extreme" for the FBI to act.
He added: "The police came and took my picture and told me I was banned from America forever. I don't really care but my parents aren't very happy."...
