A mother killed in cold blood: Manhunt for Iraq war vet who 'shot dead female park ranger, 34, in New Year's Day horror'

Authorities are scouring Mount Rainier National Park for a cold-blooded killer who gunned down a U.S. Forest Service Ranger and then fired at officers who were coming to help her.

Officials closed the park after the shooting yesterday, and asked people to stay out of the area while they search for a man carrying a long rifle.

He is also the prime suspect in the shooting of four people at New Year's Eve party hours earlier in the south of Seattle - which left two people critically injured.

The female ranger, Margaret Anderson, 34, a married mother of two young girls, was shot as she stopped the suspect's car.

A 'strong person of interest' has been identified as Benjamin Colton Barnes, 24, an Iraq war veteran who is believed to have strong wilderness survival skills and is heavily armed.

Pierce County Sheriff's Office spokesman Ed Troyer said authorities recovered Barnes' vehicle, which had weapons and body armour inside.

Authorities believed the gunman was still in the woods with an assault rifle. They asked people to stay away from the park, and for those already there to leave.

Mr Troyer said there were about 100 people hunkered down in lodges and cabins on the mountain. They were told to stay put because they could be in the line of fire.

Armoured vehicles were being brought in to ferry them safely out of the park.

Mr Troyer said authorities were following tracks in the snow they believe are from the gunman, and crews planned to bring an airplane through the area with heat-seeking capabilities. He added: 'We believe we have a good track on him, but he's way ahead of us'...[Full Article]

Lemonade Freedom Day

Time
Saturday, August 20 · 12:00pm - 3:00pm

More Info
On August 20 2011, Liberty activists from several regions will meet on the West lawn of the nations capitol in Washington DC from 12pm to 3pm to sell lemonade.

The simple childhood act of setting up a lemonade stand is no longer safe from the reaches of our overbearing monolithic government. The state does not want children taught how to run their own business or succeed without the help of the state. This was evidenced in Georgia when three girls had their summer dreams of raising money from a lemonade stand crushed by the state for not "providing a proper permit." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mPKUUH7ytUo

We are here to stand in solidarity against this monolithic monster that calls itself the US government. We do not need your permission for something that is a fundamental right. The right to buy and sell is inherent, self evident, and something no man, no matter their uniform has the right to take away from us. So on August 20th we will stand as free men and women in front of the government's front yard and set up our own lemonade stand. If you can not make it to the nation's capitol to do this in "their front yard" then do so whereever you are. Peacefully and happilly assert yourself as a free person who does not need the state's permission to buy or sell. We will peacefully sell lemonade for a 10 cents a cup for all who consent to purchase. We will treat no person poorly in doing so. Nonetheless if we are apprehended by " law enforcement" aka the state, we are fully prepared to go to jail and turn this into an act of civil disobidience.

To all who do not wish to be arrested, don't worry you can still partake in the fun, just stand on the side bring a video camera or a simple 10 cents and enjoy a refreshing cup of lemonade on a warm summers day.

On May28, 2011 Television host Adam Kokesh and several other activists participating in a flash-mob were arrested at the publicly-funded Thomas Jefferson Memorial. Their crime? Silently dancing, in celebration of the first amendment's champion; a clear violation of their right to free-expression. In an excessive use of force, video was captured of Adam being body slammed and placed in a choke for his non-crime.

Handcuffed and body slammed by female police officer... for dancing at the Jefferson Memorial

UK Daily Mail

  • Protesters dance after law bans 'flashmobs' at memorial
  • Police officer investigated for 'bodyslamming' dancer

A female U.S. Parks Police officer who 'bodyslammed' a dancing protester is being investigated after footage of the incident appeared on YouTube.

The man was part of a group of dancers taking part in a 'flashmob' demonstration at the Thomas Jefferson Memorial in Washington on May 28 when the officer hurled him to the ground before choking him.

They were protesting against a ruling by a federal judge made in January that made dancing at the memorial constituted an illegal demonstration and not an expression of free speech.

Parks Police officers are seen manhandling the demonstrators - some of whom are punched as they lie on the ground being put into handcuffs.

The video then shows a dancing man wearing a white T-shirt with the word 'disobey' on it being grabbed round the waist and lifted into the air by an officer who then throws him heavily down onto the stone floor.

As the man lies on his back the officer is seen grabbing him around the neck with both hands, pinning him to the ground.

Prior to the incident an officer is heard telling protesters: 'I'll give you a warning. If you come out here and you demonstrate by dancing, you will be placed under arrest. ... Does everybody understand that?'

But Police chiefs decided an investigation should be conducted into the officers' conduct and have referred the matter to the Office of Professional Responsibility.

Dancing in the Rotunda building where the Jefferson statue is housed was banned in January this year following an incident on April 12, 2008, before Jefferson's 265th birthday, when 17 headphone-wearing dancers swayed around the interior of the memorial.

A woman was arrested and although charges against her were dropped, one of the other protesters filed a suit against the U.S. Park Service, claiming her arrest was illegal.

But U.S. District Judge John Bates ruled that the dancers were taking part in an illegal act.

He wrote: 'The purpose of the memorial is to publicize Thomas Jefferson's legacy, so that critics and supporters alike may contemplate his place in history.

'Prohibiting demonstrations is a reasonable means of ensuring a tranquil and contemplative mood at the Jefferson Memorial.'
