10 Things That We Can Learn About Shortages And Preparation From The Economic Collapse In Greece

The Economic Collapse Blog

When the economy of a nation collapses, almost everything changes.  Unfortunately, most people have never been through anything like that, so it can be difficult to know how to prepare.  For those that are busy preparing for the coming global financial collapse, there is a lot to be learned from the economic depression that is happening right now in Greece.  Essentially, what Greece is experiencing is a low level economic collapse.  Unemployment is absolutely rampant and poverty is rapidly spreading, but the good news for Greece is that the global financial system is still operating somewhat normally and they are getting some financial assistance from the outside.  Things in Greece could be a whole lot worse, and they will probably get a whole lot worse before it is all said and done.  But already things have gotten bad enough in Greece that it gives us an idea of what a full-blown economic collapse in the 21st century may look like.  There are reports of food and medicine shortages in Greece, crime and suicides are on the rise and people have been rapidly pulling their money out of the banks.  Hopefully this article will give you some ideas that you can use as you prepare for the economic chaos that will soon be unfolding all over the globe. Austerity Riots - A Glimpse Of America's Future?

End Of The American Dream

Are the austerity protests and riots happening in Greece right now a glimpse of America's future? The truth is that both nations are absolutely drowning in debt. It is just that the "day of reckoning" has already arrived for Greece but it has not arrived for the United States yet. Yes, there are some important differences between the situation in Greece and the situation in the U.S., but there are also some important similarities. Budget cuts and other austerity measures are being promoted by the political leaders of both countries. Greek citizens have reacted very negatively to the economic austerity programs that have been implemented in that nation. As budget cuts on the federal, state and local levels in the United States start to really become painful, will we eventually see the same kind of austerity riots in this country that we are currently seeing in Greece? The Financial Collapse Of Greece: The Canary In The Coal Mine For The Global Economy?

The Economic Collapse Blog

The rest of the world needs to sit up and take notice of what is going on in Greece right now. This is what can happen when you allow government debt to spiral out of control. Once it becomes clear that you can't pay your debts, a financial collapse can happen very suddenly and you start losing your sovereignty to those that you must turn to for financial help. So is the financial collapse of Greece the "canary in the coal mine" for the global economy? EU finance ministers have given the Greek government two weeks from Monday to approve another round of brutal austerity measures. If the austerity measures are not approved, Greece will not receive the next bailout installment of 12 billion euros. If that happens, the whole globe better buckle up because it is going to get crazy. (Read More....)

Firebombs fly in fierce clashes over Greece dump site

Firebombs exploded and clouds of tear gas filled the air as helmeted riot police moved in on protesters on the edge of small Greek town Keratea, which is gripped by a rebellion against state plans to place a rubbish dump in the area. The planned landfill site has prompted several months of violent protests from residents. Protest organisers argue the proposed landfill site is too close to a residential area and would also damage an ancient site, which they say has not been properly excavated.

Police in Greece have been involved in violent clashes with demonstrators in the capital Athens.

US Will Be Like Greece In '7 To 10 Years', Say Congessman, Experts

(CNSNews.com) - Sen. Judd Gregg (R-N.H.), along with other members of Congress and leading financial experts, is warning that the United States is in danger of being in the same dire situation as Greece – national bankruptcy -- in seven to 10 years unless the federal government radically curtails spending.

Last month, Gregg, the ranking Republican on the Senate Budget Committee, said the United States will “essentially be where Greece is in about seven years.

“If we continue to spend much more than we take in," he says. "We'll double our debt in five years and triple it in 10 years and essentially be where Greece is in about seven years,” Gregg told the Fox Business Network in May...

Greece Considers Legal Action Against U.S. Banks for Crisis

May 16 (Bloomberg) -- Greece is considering taking legal action against U.S. investment banks that might have contributed to the country’s debt crisis, Prime Minister George Papandreou said.

“I wouldn’t rule out that this may be a recourse,” Papandreou said, in response to questions about the role of U.S. banks in the crisis, in an interview on CNN’s “Fareed Zakaria GPS.” The program, scheduled for broadcast today, was taped on May 13. Neither Papandreou nor Zakaria mentioned any banks by name...

Beware The Situation In Greece: It Will Happen Here!

The current situation in Greece should be well studied and watched carefully. Rioting, property destruction and even murder, the absolute wrong way for citizens to react to this government-caused debacle, has begun in earnest. While this should not surprise anyone, it should serve as a warning to other countries; most especially America. As I write this, another massive bailout is occurring; and of course the U.S. taxpayer is once again on the hook for billions of dollars. This time though, it is going overseas. If current U.S. government policy remains in place; that is inflation, bailouts, excessive spending, increased taxation, higher deficits, etc., this causing even more unemployment, then not only in my opinion will rioting and civil unrest occur here, but it will dwarf anything seen recently in Greece.

While some may doubt that this can happen in America, I would warn that this thinking is devoid of reality and downright naïve. Not only could it happen here, but the level of government intervention and government control of the citizenry should it happen here, could very well be widespread, aggressive and rights-destroying at a level not seen in the past. I have written about here and here the probability of Martial Law, and about the U.S. government’s plans to arrest and incarcerate, and hold without charge or trial, those not abiding by or adhering to unconstitutional government mandates. My belief and opinion is that if things get out of hand, and the citizenry practices any form of real dissent, that the government response will be aggressive and brutal. Don’t automatically put this aside, as not only is this scenario possible but probable considering the turmoil that is sure to come...
